The Books Speak for Themselves (almost)

Tim Boswell helped take my book, The Kilgore Curse, from a disorganized manuscript to a thrilling completed novel with over fifty 5-star Amazon reviews. Besides that, he is a humble person and a pleasure to work with. Tim, you are indeed ‘the man.’ I wouldn’t want anyone else editing my novel. Hope we get to work together again soon.

The Kilgore Curse

My book would never have been a polished, finished product if not for Tim.  He told me in our first conversation after he was assigned to my manuscript that he would not change the style in which I wrote. Tim did nudge me in the right direction to expand on description and emotion, which I did to his approval.  After Tim rearranged and combined some sentences and compressed 29 chapters to 24, my book was ready to go.  If anyone would review Black Cat 2-1 you know having Tim Boswell on your team, and in this case “in the cockpit” with me, produces a solid book.

Black Cat 2-1: The True Story of a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and His Crew

When my publisher told me I’d be working with a “developmental editor” I had no idea what that was.  I was admittedly wary because I had written three previous books without one and wondered why I needed one. Then the publisher introduced me to Tim and, after working with him on this project, I bemoaned the fact he hadn’t been around to help me craft the previous books! They would have been far improved.

Tim opened my eyes to what genuine, collaborative book editing is all about.  He pored through my draft and carefully, strategically suggested numerous edits, ideas, and changes.  He caught grammar errors, but more importantly, he caught errors in my THINKING.  He challenged me to think as the reader, not just the writer.  The book improved immediately and dramatically.

Tim was forthright but never demanding, articulate but not condescending. And I couldn’t be more thrilled with the end result.  This book is the most cogent, most readable, most accessible of my books and it is solely because of Tim’s irreplaceable contributions.

I’ve worked with other editors and professionals and have published many books. You were the best. Accurate, responsive, insightful, and encouraging.

About your guide

When he was a kid, Timmy Boswell played with toy dinosaurs, He-Man, and G.I. Joes like the other boys—except his play involved writing out elaborate stories about their adventures. This love of words later carried him through a bachelor’s in writing through interdisciplinary studies (magna cum laude), a master’s in creative writing (4.0 GPA), and a Ph.D. in creative writing (with distinction).

Going by Tim now—or Dr. Boswell to some—he works full-time as the managing editor for the international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal Studies in the Novel, and he previously worked as managing editor for American Literary Review. He has taught 16 sections of university-level writing courses, teaches writing privately, and has collaborated with authors on over two dozen published books. He lives in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife and three sons.
